About the project

The Grove House is a residential architecture project that explores the integration of landscape into domestic space. Situated on a wooded site with mature trees, the design responds directly to the existing ecology, with rooms organized around views to the surrounding grove. Living walls, continuous material connections between interior and exterior, and strategic natural light create an experience where the boundary between inside and outside dissolves.

The home functions as a retreat where occupants feel deeply connected to nature while maintaining all the comfort and functionality of contemporary living. Every material, every opening, and every spatial gesture was designed with this principle in mind.

Design approach and materials

The design began with extensive site analysis. We mapped existing vegetation patterns, water flows, sun angles across seasons, and prevailing winds. Rather than imposing a design on the site, we let these natural systems inform every decision.

Material selections prioritized living materials and authentic finishes. We specified reclaimed timber for primary structures, natural stone for flooring, and copper elements that will weather and patina over time. Interior living walls were integrated into the spatial planning—not as decoration, but as structural and ecological elements. Large windows frame key views of the mature trees, while clerestory windows bring diffused light deep into the home.

The landscape integration extended to water systems: rainwater is collected and integrated into the site's natural drainage, creating responsive water features that activate during storms. Hardscape materials were selected to blend with the forest floor while providing durable pathways.

The outcome

The Grove House demonstrates that biophilic design principles can create residential spaces of extraordinary beauty while maintaining contemporary functionality. The clients report a profound shift in how they experience daily life—occupants feel restored by their connection to the surrounding forest, yet the home provides all the comfort and efficiency expected of a modern residence.

The project has become a reference for how landscape integration and authentic material selection can transform a home into a sanctuary. Visitors consistently remark on the calm and sense of place they experience, even on their first visit.
